Welcome to Nantes
Nantes is the former capital of Brittany, full of exceptional architectural heritage including a marvelous castle from the XV century (Dukes of Brittany Castle), boating rivers and charming parks.
Cultural events also take place all year long and summer is a very touristic season. At the gateway of Brittany, Vendée and Poitou, Nantes is at the center of a 500,000 people agglomeration famous for its quality of life. This international city is also turned toward the future with a 40,000 students University, and many international research centers.
15 minutes away is the Nantes vineyard trail which will take you through captivating countryside. Ideally situated at the mouth of the Loire Valley, between land and sea, the greatest garden of Nantes offers a whole range of wines, including the famous Muscadet. Light and fresh, the white wine is wonderful with fish, seafood, white meat...
Travelling 30 minutes to the westcoast, you will find the famous côte de Jade with its wide beaches for kite-flying and sand-surfing, and sea water therapy centers. Côte d'amour offers other very famous beaches at La Baule with hundreds of villas of many different styles, a casino. Le Croisic and La Turballe are also two working fishing ports on the edge of the salt marshes- you must see how the salt from Guerande, a middle-age city, is collected.
The Atlantic Coast Brittany can be reached within one hour, as well as the wide beaches of Vendée. Further south you will find Les Sables d'Olonne - starting point for a world tour as the Vendée Globe sets off from here! Wonderful islands are also accessible: Noirmoutier or Belle-île.
Within two hours driving distance, the Chateaux of the Loire built along the river Loire from the 14th to the 16th century, can be visited. Famous monastery at Le Mont Saint-Michel is also accessible by car or bus 2 hours from Nantes.
